My Story
Dr. Adriana Chavarín-López is the daughter of Mexican immigrant parents who instilled in her the importance of education. Adriana was inspired by her teachers and principal at Harborside Elementary School in Chula Vista, California to pursue a career in education. She earned her teaching degree from the University of Southern California and began her career as a bilingual teacher in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Driven to make a broader impact, she later obtained her Master’s in Education Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University, along with an Early Childhood Management Certificate from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management.
As a school principal, Dr. Chavarín-López led numerous school-wide initiatives focused on educating the whole child, such as art, music, yoga, and an award-winning school garden program. To prepare students for global citizenship, she pioneered the implementation of an Apple Distinguished educational technology program, a social-emotional learning curriculum, a Latina mentorship program, and a dual language immersion program. Believing in the power of collaboration, she cultivated partnerships with foundations, businesses, and local governments to enhance academic and social outcomes. She also worked closely with parent leadership teams to ensure a shared commitment to student success.

Dr. Chavarín-López earned her Doctor of Education Leadership degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where her dissertation, Transformation by Design: Leading and (Un)Learning at the Logan Memorial Educational Campus and the San Diego Unified School District, examined strategies for transforming prenatal-12th grade education systems.

Dr. Chavarín-López recently served as a Senior Director for the San Diego Unified School District and has been a Senior Facilitator for the Harvard University Public Education Leadership Project (PELP) where she has led school districts across the nation through problem solving and strategic planning for major learning initiatives.
Currently, Adriana serves as the CEO of Sabbaticalize, a consulting group that envisions transforming professional learning by inspiring educators to reflect deeply on their practice, prioritize self-care and renewal, and drive meaningful, sustainable change in the education sector.
